THE BATTLE HAS BEGUN TO STOP DRUNK DRIVING IN ROCHESTER
Last year 47% of traffic fatalities in Monroe County were alcohol related , yet local festivals and events provide the opportunity to consume alcohol at a record pace. A Rochester company seeks to combat potential drunk drivers by providing ways to inform festival-goers just how much each drink can affect them.
Rochester, NY August 11, 2006 – Driving while intoxicated is not an accident it is a preventable crime. Nu-Look Collision Centers see the effects of driving under the influence on a regular basis. In an effort to inform the Rochester community about DWI laws and consequences, they will be present at the upcoming East End Festival on Friday, August 11 2006 from 5-11pm. At the event, they will host a staffed tent, which offers free BAC tests to anyone that wants to monitor their drinking throughout the night. Using professional Breath Testing Units, one can visit the tent to blow into the Breathalyzer and immediately see the level of alcohol currently in their bodies.
“We believe this event would create a lot of interest and curiosity. Most people aren’t aware of their alcohol levels based on their social drinking habits and worse yet, may never experience this until it is too late” – Jeffrey DiFulvio, President, Nu-Look Collision Centers. Information is key when it comes to fighting drunk driving. Not only will the breath testing be available, but also information on laws and statistics specific to Rochester. Their goal is to persuade people to make smarter decisions after drinking. Taxi information and contacts will also be provided.
The idea behind the event is to make individuals that think they are “OK to drive” more aware of the legal limits and how quickly one can reach that when drinking socially. By having the breath testing available, people will be able to know exactly who is legally allowed to drive and who is not. “This issue is of tremendous importance. I applaud your commitment to an excellent cause.” – Mayor Robert J. Duffy.
